Our Curriculum

The ALC curriculum enables our students to develop their personal, emotional, social and academic skills and knowledge. We offer a personalised curriculum, which is tailored to individual pupils' needs and provides pathways that enable a transition to higher education, training and apprenticeships.

How our curriculum is designed

Our curriculum is designed to ensure we meet the needs of each individual student and EHCP targets are met. We use the students' interests and skills to provide motivating and engaging lessons and learning experiences. Lessons are taught on a 1:1 basis with group work available.

The curriculum is not based on the age of the learner but is based on:

  • The learners' readiness to learn

  • The learners’ gaps in understanding

  • The learners’ requirements with respect to their next steps at ALC and beyond

We teach a broad curriculum leading to external accreditation at GCSE level, where applicable. We enhance our curriculum with vocational qualifications such as functional skills in English and Maths, ICT and Asdan in Personal development, AQA awards in Land-based studies, Food Technology and Sports. We are a NCFE and BTEC registered centre.
